My name is Eric Reyes and I am the 2007/2008 Public Relations Director for AZGV.
I have been with Arizona Gay Volleyball Association since it first started in late 2003 and
became involved because I had a love for volleyball. A friend told me about a
place downtown where lots of people were getting together to play
and it was free. I showed up around the second week they started
playing and a few weeks after that they started forming teams. As the first season was coming to an end they asked for
volunteers to run for an organizing board and because I have experience in sales and marketing I figured my skills would be best
utilized in public relations. I've hellped bring AZGV it's first two tournaments at Arizona Gay Pride and at IonAz's Splash Bash.
Throughout the years I've played on several teams ranging from beginning
to
advanced in Arizona, California, Texas and Mexico. I enjoy helping others who want to learn how to play
competitively. I've
coached elementary school girls volleyball and assisted in a girls
volleyball clinic led by an AVP Official in 2004. I am also the
proud uncle of a niece whose volleyball team won 1st place in the
Scottsdale city league. Today I'm working
on bringing gay volleyball to other cities in Arizona and increasing AZGV
awareness in the Phoenix metropolitan area.
An interesting volleyball fact that people may not know about me is
that in 2005 I became the proud owner of a Baden "Exclusively Endorsed Major
League Volleyball". This volleyball is from the first major pro volleyball association
that was established in the mid 80's and became defunct in late 80's.
